Fourth and fifth graders at Taylor Elementary have been working hard on remembering what their E.A.R.S. are for...reading out loud! Reading with Expression, Accuracy, Rate and Smoothness are things that a good reader does when they're reading aloud. Each Friday, Mrs. Corbin, Ms. Whicker, Mrs. Beck and Mrs. Muhelstein's classes have the chance to show off their skills by reading to the four first grade classes. This is a fun opportunity for both grades to look forward to because it gives them a chance to practice reading, make new friends, and learn from each other. This is a long time tradition that has been happening at Taylor for more than 10 years! Upper grade students always remember when they were in first grade and the "big kids" read to them. What a great way to continue the community at Taylor Elementary! Many tigers....one ROAR!
Taylor Elementary school's third graders in Mrs. Provstgaard's class participated in National Day of Caring by weeding and re-mulching the front flower-beds of the school. These flowers beds were added to the school last year and have been such a beautiful addition to the entrance of Taylor. Thank you students for your service and dedication to Taylor! Many tigers.....one R.O.A.R.!
Taylor School had the privilege of participating in a patriotic flag ceremony this morning. In honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the flag at Taylor School was lowered halfway by Army veteran, Marshall Ludwig, who served honorably in the Viet Nam War. This was an emotional experience for many who were there.
As Taylor tigers, we Reach our potential, Own up, Accept everyone and Remember who we represent. Today was a great day to be a tiger, and remember all those who have bravely sacrificed their lives for our freedoms!
5th grade students at Taylor were recently delighted by Discovery Gateway's 'Reaction Time". Students were shown experiments involving chemical and physical change as well as states of matter. This was a great chance for students to really see science come to life!
Mark your calendars for October 19th! This is the deadline for this year's reflection contest entries. This year's nationwide theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly". Information came home with your student recently with rules and entry forms. Most questions can be answered by reading the information packet, or contacting a member of the PTA!
Thank you PTA for getting our students excited!!!!
Tomorrow, September 9th, a dental varnishing clinic will be held at Taylor School. A permission note was sent home last week with students. Please sign with either yes, OR no and return the note to the school. Our goal is for 100% of the students at Taylor to return the signed note even if you're not selecting dental varnishing.
Taylor's 6th grade student council was announced today! Each of the three classes have one boy and one girl representative that will serve the student body of Taylor.
2015-2016 Taylor Elementary Student Council
Congratulations to these students and all who campaigned for office! Taylor is excited for all of the great ideas, help and examples that we know these six students are capable of! Way to represent Taylor!
Taylor Elementary is known for our rich history, our academic success, our diverse population and our student motivation. "Many Tigers, One R.O.A.R." has become part of every day life at Taylor. Our school motto is a reminder that, together, with parents, students and faculty, we are ALL an essential 'tiger' that plays an important role in our school's success.
R.each Your Potential
R.emember Who You Represent
Our school motto is being discussed at school on a regular basis. Challenge your child to tell you what each of the letters in R.O.A.R. mean and how, together, you can apply those in your educational paths here at Taylor School!
