Principal's February Newsletter

Submitted by courtney.corbin on

Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, February 8, 2017, you will be receiving an email from Nebo School District asking you to complete a survey regarding our school's effectiveness.  Please help us by filling out the survey between Feb. 8 and February 26.
The survey will also be available in Spanish.
Thank you in advance for your participation.

We are having fun with our Tiger Pride Assemblies each month.  We set 3 goals that we work as a school to reach each month to become Sterling Silver Scholars.  This month our 3 goals are: Remember who you represent, 95% class average attendance, and best PE specialty class.

I have talked a little to the kids about coming to school if they are sick.  I don't know about you but one of the hardest questions I have to ask myself as a mom is, "Is my child too sick for school?"   Utah  Health Department has provided us with a list of symptoms that would suggest you student should stay home.

 Fever of 100 degrees F or above
 Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
 Diarrhea-frequent, loose, watery stools
 Unusual drowsiness or tiredness
 Sore throat, acute cold, or persistent cough
 Runny nose (thick green/yellow discharge-non allergenic)
 Red, inflamed or discharging eyes (non-allergenic). Pink eye must be treated with antibiotic
drop/ointment for at least 24 hours before returning to school
 Swollen glands around jaw, ears, or neck
 Any skin sore oozing of fluid or suspected impetigo (may have a yellow crusty discharge from a sore)
 Suspected head or body lice that has NOT been treated
 An unexplained rash
 Symptoms which may suggest an acute illness

Students with conditions needing treatment with an antibiotic may return to the classroom after at least 24 hours of treatment and a decrease in symptoms.  If your student does not have one of these symptoms, I would encourage you to send them to school.  If your child shows any of these signs while they are at school, we will notify you immediately so that you can take them home until they have recovered.  We greatly appreciate all that you do to ensure that your children are in school each and every day when they are healthy.  Attendance is SO IMPORTANT for student success!  When your child is ill or absent for appointments, etc., please call the school office to excuse them before 9:30 AM.  We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our school safe and healthy place to be.

Don't forget to save your BOX TOPS and send them in!

We sure hope the weather is going to stay warmer and the air will stay cleaner.  We check the air quality NUMEROUS  times each day before sending our students out.  I sent home a website that explains how we decide when to send our students out on questionable air quality days on my last newsletter.  You are welcome to visit this site at anytime.  http://health.utah.gov/asthma/airquality/recess.html  I also look at temperature, wind, wetness and other factors.  We have designated an area in the lunchroom for those students who are on current health plans and have asthma or other health problems that may cause them to have to stay inside during days that are indicated as an Orange day.  If you have concerns with your student's health and have been working with a doctor, you are welcome to contact myself or our school nurse, Kelsey Gardner, and we can look into creating a health plan for your student.

Just a reminder to have your students use the crossing guards when coming to and from school.  We ask that parents not drop off students behind the parked cars on 100 South.  We also ask that you not drop them off on the corners of 100 South and 500 West.  This is super hazardous to our students.
Thank you so much for your support!  I greatly appreciate all you do to ensure our school is a safe place.

Sincerely,Mrs. Robbins
