Macie Steele Receives PEAK Award!

Submitted by courtney.corbin on Wed, 01/10/2018 - 20:59

Macie Steele was nominated by Courtney Corbin for a PEAK award which is given to those who go above and beyond in Nebo School District.  She was presented her Award at Wednesday night's Board Meeting.

“Macie worked at our school in the lunch room. She knows every kid by name and dances around wearing her ‘Taco Tuesday’ headband. She sings to the kids coming through the line about all of the yummy ingredients in the day's meals. She reminds the students to grab their fruits and veggies.

“We have a special needs employee that also works in the lunchroom. Macie makes her feel like a million bucks. When this employee had a primary dance to attend, Macie brought her a special shade of pink lip gloss to wear for the evening. Macie escorted this employee to our school's birthday party as her special guest. They walked arm in arm the entire night. When the employee went to Disneyland, Macie made the employee a special travel bag for the plane.”

END OF TERM REWARD:  We are excited to be able to take 1st through 6th grade to the movies on Jan. 19th as the end of term behaivior reward.  We will be watching the movie Paddington 2.    All students that have not been suspended either in school or out of school and/or received less than 2 tickets this term will be able to attend this reward field trip.  A permission slip will be coming home soon for parents to sign giving your student permission to go.  I will be sending out individual notes or phone calls to the parents of those who do not qualify to go.

PARKING!:  Please be considerate and safety conscious as you drop off and pick up students at school. The winter months see an increase in the number of cars. Remember to: not block the flow of traffic, not block cross walk area, use parking stalls not pull through lanes if you need to enter the building.  PLEASE DO NOT PARK BEHIND THE CARS THAT ARE PARKED ON 100 SOUTH!!  This blocks people in and it is so dangerous for students to be entering cars in this area!

WINTER WEATHER:  With the winter months and more severe weather conditions of winter (that may come this year....who knows.  :)) we wanted to review our inclement weather and student illness procedures to both reassure and help parents and patrons prepare and plan.
•We recommend that students arrive at school no earlier than 8:30 for supervision purposes. If arriving earlier, the building will be open at 8:00 for students to wait for the start of class in the front office area.
•Children should arrive at school dressed for the weather of the day so they can safely and comfortably enjoy recesses. In winter months, children should remember to bring shoes to change into from their snow boots. All healthy children will be expected to go out for recess except in extreme weather conditions (wind chill, rain, snow, etc.).
•If your child cannot participate in recess for health reasons, please send a note to this effect. If it is to be a prolonged indoor stay (longer than 3 days) please send a note from the doctor.
•Students will remain inside in extreme weather conditions such as: very cold temperatures (below 20 degrees) and wind chill, heavy rain and snowfall, unhealthy air/inversions (we check air quality daily).
•In the event of a major weather event (severe storm, power outage...) The District’s ParentLink system will be used to notify parents this can be in the form of an automated phone call, text, or email. For this information to reach you it is important that you keep your contact information current within the online SIS system. Information will also be posted and updated on the district web page www.nebo.edu. If we need to evacuate the school we would go to LDS Church  (on 100 S, the green church). All teachers and staff members will remain at school to care for the students. Unless otherwise notified, we will release students only to responsible adults or family members.
Have a wonderful afternoon!
