4th Grade Attends Utah Symphony

Submitted by courtney.corbin on Mon, 03/31/2014 - 15:19

Fourth-grade students at Taylor Elementary had a great reason to dress in their very best…the Utah Symphony performance at Salem Hills High School.  This performance is always an exciting time of year for fourth graders because they love to see and hear the different instruments the symphony uses in music.  Several of the selections were familiar to students so it was neat to hear them being performed live.  Many thanks go to the Utah Symphony and those at the district level that help organize this event each year for the fourth-grades in Nebo.  What a memorable time of year!

Just a few weeks ago, the sixth graders at Taylor Elementary School got the chance to participate in the 7th annual 'King and Queen's Ball'.  It was a blast!  Thanks to our teachers, Ryan Wilson, Rachel Santiago and Perthena Brown, we had the chance to dress in our 'Sunday Best', have a royal feast, dance, and take some pictures with our friends and loved ones.  At first, I was terrified because our participation was going to be graded, but it turned out to be on do the best days of sixth grade!  We were all assigned a partner to dance with.  The dances included a line dance, an assigned partner dance, and an any partner choice slow dance.  It took a lot of early-morning practices to get our dances ready and there were always plenty of younger kids peeking through the gym windows trying to get a glimpse of what we were doing.  The 'Kind and Queen's Ball' was the big "gossip and talk" of the week.  I am so glad I participated in this exciting event.  I hope every child at Taylor Elementary gets to experience this even and project because it is so much fun.  By the way...I got a good grade on it, too.

Taylor Family Math Night a Success!

Submitted by courtney.corbin on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 12:26

Taylor Elementary held their 2nd annual Family Math Night last night. Each grade level met with parents and students to showed them multiple ways to enjoy math in their homes. Third-grade teacher, Mrs. Robin Provstgaard, said, "We had a lot of second-grade students come to our sessions. Parents were really interested in starting their kids on concepts early so they can be successful in the next grade level." Across grade levels, activities ranged from integer activities, multiplication games, dancing in Math, addition games all the way to counting and recognizing numbers in kindergarten! Parents were excited to come away with armloads of free math supplies and games for their families to share! Fourth-grade student, Briar Day, said, "It was fun to go to other grades besides just fourth. I went to three different classes but I liked moving around my body with geometry words the best!"

Taylor Elementary is very appreciative of our parents continuing to show support to our teachers and our math programs. We're already looking forward to next year's "Family Math Night"!
